Baby Namings

Children are a joy ! ילדים הם שמחה What a blessing! Baby namings are Judaism’s way of rejoicing in and welcoming a new life.  I can help create the perfect ceremony for your precious child, whether you will be called to the Torah before the entire community or hold a simple family and friends celebration at home.

If you are expecting a boy, we will discuss your questions and concerns about and options for the bris. And if you are expecting a girl, know that the ritual will be equal in significance and joy. For all baby namings I offer a wide range of beautiful readings and songs and can also include your favorites! The ceremony typically takes 20-45 minutes and the creative possibilities are endless. Let’s set up a time to talk about welcoming and naming your Jewish baby!

Rabbis Glazer, Chester & Feld at Desmond’s Bris

“Rabbi Rosalind officiated at our son’s baby naming along with the mohel, Rabbi Chanan Feld z’l, who performed the bris. Her beautiful singing, and her inspiring and thoughtful words made the occasion very special and intimate. Rabbi Rosalind has a real warmth about her – an ability to connect on a deeply personal level. She brings heart, humor, intelligence, a real joy for life, deep Jewish insight and knowledge, and compassion to all she does.  It was a privilege having her as our rabbi.  She’s a real mensch and we can’t praise her enough!” – Henry & Susan, Berkeley, CA

Mikvah Day for Rebecca – MAZAL TOV!

The birth or adoption of a new child is a time to celebrate HUGE changes in the life of an individual or couple as it forms a family and further builds community. Despite the exhaustion we may be feeling, Judaism calls us to recognize this significant change at the 8th day of life so we can express our gratitude and wonder at the miracle of life. Names are a powerful way to carry our family and Jewish heritage with throughout our lives. The Jewish name we are given at birth is also the name by which we will be called to the Torah on our bat or bar mitzvah, the name with which we may someday enter into a covenant of marriage and the name by which we will be remembered when we are gone. Every liminal moment in our lives deserves acknowledgement and celebration. Let’s talk about how I can make your baby naming and welcoming ceremony most joyful!

“Open-hearted and skilled, Rabbi Rosalind Glazer turned my daughters adoption day at the courthouse into a complete ritual of coming home.  We will be forever thankful for the gift of her presence and guidance on that most auspicious and joyful of days!” – Judith, New York, NY
